Inspiration NOT "Thinspiration"

Hi guys! So, I'm not sure if you all have seen/heard about this new ad campaign from Star Models (an ad agency in Brazil), but I was surfing the internet yesterday, and these images came up on the screen.

The campaign is a "powerful anti-anorexia ad campaign {that} tells women 'you are not a sketch' using models with fashion illustration proportions."  I wanted to make it VERY clear that I was unaware of these ads when I did my post the other day on "Life Imitating Art" and after seeing the disturbing pictures in the article I HAD to say something!

When I received the Inslee notecard in the  mail (last week), I was inspired by the outfit in the picture, and I used items in my wardrobe to mimic the image (not the skinniness of the model-clearly).  The intent of my post was not to "glorify" anorexia, but to show off the style of the art!  After seeing the images in the Brazilian ad, it was quite alarming to see what a fashion model would like like if she were to actually have the same proportions of the sketches she is trying to emulate.  FYI- for my post I actually had to "shrink down" the image so she would be my same height (a whopping 5'3!)

The campaign says to young women: "You are not a sketch" and I agree!  However, I do like to look at fashion sketches for outfit "inspiration" NOT "thinspiration."  I truly hope that everyone who read the post saw it the way I intended it to be seen.

Call it a coincidence- but I honestly had NO IDEA about the campaign until after I posted.  Again, I am sorry if this post offended anyone, but my intent was to mimic the fashion and NOT the body type portrayed in the art!

Also, here is a link to the full article here if you want to check it out!

  2. i don't think anyone interpreted you as advocating anorexia in any way. but that is odd that you found those images after posting that awesome previous post. those images are startling. but it's a good point to make. and i love that you created an actual outfit of your own by being inspired by an image. :)

  3. Umm I LOVED that other post and definitely did not get the Ally-is pro-anorexia vibe at all so no worries... I love this post even more .those images are shocking and i really hope more women see outfit suggestions and not body suggestions when they see things like that ..

  4. Ally I am absolutely in LOVE with your blog! Love this anti-anorexia ad campaign and love that you took a moment to share. I think it's an important reminder, especially to those of us who adore fashion, that those sketched ideals/ waif models on the runway are not healthy and much more shockingly disturbing than shockingly beautiful...with that said, I'm now going to attempt to make your fruit pizza!!! Miss you and hope alls well! xoxoxo
